Cloud Atlas: Papa Song Diner Girl & Red Novitiate

A couples costume project from Cloud Atlas. One of my partner's favorite movies.

OG Elastigirl

I saw the Incredibles movie for the first time in 2025, and was surprised by how much I loved it. I'm particularly enamoured with two things:

• The way Elastigirl uses her power, especially in comparison to the Reed Richards elastic body approach. They did a great job coming up with "scientifically" plausible techniques for her to use, and her "feminine" characterizations is quite nuanced - some of the best.
• Elastigirl's Hip-Waist ratio. It's like she was drawn just for me.

I have the fabrics I want to use for her from a shopping trip to New York in September, but I need to decide how I want to do the legging/boot component and if I want to add rhinestones.

Ram-Horn Padme Amidala

This costume has been my dream since I first realized I could have what I saw on screen, if I only made it myself. I am a true prequels mega-fan, and a headdress aficionado.

Orange Pleats

• These are not all the way around on the skirt or bodice. They barely show in the front for still images, and I have extended them to the sides so that they cover me while I walk, but I value being able to sit and conserving fabric when and where possible.
• I was unable to locate pre-pleated silk with the precise specifications and color I wanted, possibly because I did not try. This orange silk was carefully ironed and smoothed, and then I attached interfacing to give the pleats something to hold on to.

Headdress

• The frame is 3d printed, and then covered in a very thin layer of brown-painted batting. It seems pretty sturdy, but the hope is that the batting provides an extra layer of stability to the 3d printed joints.
• The horn frame will then mount to the main wig by way of custom kudex mounting brackets for the front and back.

Barbarella

My OG Silver Barbarella costume, with the thigh high boots and strappy trim, was repurposed for a friend and tailored down to fit her. No great loss, it was old and I can do much better with my new skills. I do wish I had reclaimed the base shoes, though.

Sister Repentia

I'm not a W40k person, but a lot of my friends are, and this just looks so cool. I'd like to use real leather hide for the vellum components.

Batman Returns Poison Ivy

My friends Beth and Trent made an incredible Mr. Freeze once upon a time, and Trent often wears his Doctor Hugo Strange look. This would suit my "camp" style and allow me to spend more time with them.
